From Old World Christmas. Here's a funny story! Gary Thomas, the father of the owner of Traditions, was in the Coast Guard and was probably one of the few people that joined without knowing he got sick as a dog at sea! So after trying and trying to cope with the sea sickness, his commander finally said, "Thomas... it's land duty for you!" From that point on he was stationed in a light house in Port Hueneme, CA. The cool part was he had just got married and his wife was allowed to live in that light house with him for four years! They certainly learned a lot and guarded our California shores at the same time, blasting that fog horn to warn ships at sea of the danger during dense fog. The men and woman of the Coast Guard are charged with the duty of protecting people at sea (or on land!) as a branch of the U.S. military. With duties involving search and rescue, the Coast Guard also serves as law enforcement involving crimes and terrorism at sea. This Coast Guard Cap Ornament is a great way to show appreciation for the service men and women in the U.S. Coast Guard.
