After many attempts by original founding fathers Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and even John Adams, the job for designing the official seal for our new nation went to an unknown secretary of the congress, Charles Thomson. His design included the bald eagle more prominently and was approved and ratified by the Continental congress in 1782.
